NY Kookaburras Honor Club Patrons at End of Season Event

The NY Kookaburras celebrated a successful 2024 season at the club’s annual end of season event at Ernie’s Bar in Greenwich Village. The evening was a special night for the club as the Kookas honored three new Club Patrons for their years of service to the club: Darren Nichol, Matt Baden, and Jake List.

The Kookas celebrated a milestone season for the club at this year’s end of year event. The evening drew the largest attendance at an end of season event in recent memory. Players past and present were in attendance. Present players regaled the "oldies" with stories of the club's thrilling journey to becoming WSL champions. The "oldies" took present players on a trip down memory lane, telling tales of Kookas feats over the years. It was a special night for the club as we celebrated a few special achievements.

NY Kookaburras Claim Maiden WSL Title!

NY Kookaburras 9/158 off 35.0 overs (Colebatch 40*, Slade 22, Worsley 18) defeated NY Wanderers 10/110 off 29.5 overs (Colebatch 4/26 (7.0), Preddey 2/18 (6.5), Balani 2/19 (7.0)). Man of the Match: Tom Colebatch (40* and 4/26 (7.0)).

On a warm fall Saturday afternoon in the Bronx, the New York Kookaburras Cricket Club won its first WSL title in an action-packed contest against the Wanderers Cricket Club. Having lost the toss, the Kookas were sent in to bat on a flat wicket and fast outfield at Van Cortland Park, where runs were expected to be plentiful. However, accurate bowling and impressive fielding by the Wanderers saw the Kookas struggle to form partnerships with wickets falling at regular intervals. The Kookas soon found themselves struggling at 8/80 in the 22nd over, with Nick Slade the pick of the batsmen until then before being dismissed for a hard-fought 22 after drinks.

NY Kookaburras Book Berth in Club's First WSL Grand Final!

NY Kookaburras 6/150 (31.3) (N.Kelland 48, Cole 22, List 18*, Balani 17) prevailed against Mad Dogs CC (10/149) (Sinclair 3/20, Preddey 3/27, Worsley 2/36) in a tense semi-final contest played at Mad Dog Park in Stamford CT to book a place in the club’s first ever WSL grand final. Man of the Match: N. Kelland 48 (38).

After finishing the home and away season in 3rd place on the ladder, the NY Kookaburras ventured to Stamford, CT to take on 2nd-placed Mad Dogs CC at the opposition’s home ground. Having missed out on WSL finals the last couple of seasons, the Kookas were out to make the most of the 2024 post-season. Kookas’ skipper Preddey won the toss and sent Mad Dogs CC in to bat.

The NY Kookaburras maintain their dominance against the NY South Africa expats in the annually contested match for the Kepler Wessels trophy. The annual contest is always a close affair and this year proved no different in a high-scoring T20 match played under lights on a Friday night. The Kookaburras lost the toss and were sent in to bat first as the sun began setting over the horizon.

NY Kookaburras Reclaim Ashes Against NY England Expats

NY Kookaburras have defeated the NY England expats to reclaim the NY Ashes. NY England had held the Ashes since 2022 after defeating the Kookas at the Philadelphia Cricket Club that year. The Kookas had set their eyes on taking back the urn.

On a warm Saturday afternoon in August in New Jersey, the NY Kookaburras and NY England expats contested New York’s version of cricket’s greatest rivalry - the Ashes. Having been held by NY England for the last few years, the Kookaburras were determined to reclaim the urn.

NY Kookaburras Undefeated at 2024 Philadelphia International Cricket Festival

The Kookaburras formed a touring squad to participate in the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival (PICF), an annual cricket tournament played on pristine cricket grounds (many of which have played host to first-class matches) in a city that was once the epicenter of cricket in the United States.

The Kookaburras journeyed to Pennsylvania to participate in the 2024 Philadelphia International Cricket Festival ("PICF") - a cricketing pilgrimage of sorts proudly attended by the Kookas for many years. Touring cricket teams from around the world converge on Philadelphia every year in May to participate in the PICF, an annual invitational cricket competition contested over a number of days at four historically significant and picturesque cricket grounds across the city. Perhaps unknown to many, Philadelphia has a rich cricketing history - while baseball grew in popularity across the rest of the country following the American Civil War, Philadelphia remained the bastion of cricket in the United States for many decades up until around World War I.
